Crystal Minnick never pictured herself attending college. As a single mother to a young five-year-old son, Crystal was working in a dead-end job that wasn’t going anywhere. During this time, her mentor suggested she attend college. Crystal turned to the Lord to make her decision.
“When I got online to apply, I felt like it was the right direction,” Crystal says.
Crystal soon enrolled in school to study Social Media Marketing. When she learned she would receive the Single-Mothers Scholarship, Crystal had a renewed sense of hope and confidence for her educational future.
“I was completely amazed, it was a blessing.” she says. “I was worried about paying for school and rent, so it was a huge answer to my prayers.”
This scholarship gave Crystal the peace to focus on her education and avoid taking on any debt. In addition, it completely changed the way she felt about school.
“I’m a better student now than I ever was. I wasn’t getting a 4.0 or anything close to that before.” says Crystal. “My education has totally changed…it’s been incredible!”
Crystal is working toward completing her degree in Social Media Marketing. She has hopes to become a marketing consultant after graduation, possibly helping charitable organizations that focus on other single-parents. She especially hopes her new education will open doors to having a career helping children in foster care.
“I used to be in the foster care system,” she says. “I want to look into becoming a foster parent to help those children who have gone through crises as I have.”
Crystal feels such a strong sense of gratitude toward those who have contributed toward the scholarship and she is incredibly touched by their generosity and kindness.
“My heart swells thanks to their charitable, kind hearts,” she says. “It’s hard to put into words how grateful I am for what they have done for me and for my son.”
